Activities for summer day camps

Discover our innovative external summer day camp activities
The Stewart Museum invites the young and the curious aged 4 to 12 to have fun while exploring history through indoor and outdoor activities.

Children 4 to 8 years old

LITTLE SAILORS
The children imagine what it was like to cross the ocean to New France. They learn navigation techniques using reproductions of old instruments. A model of the great sailing ship Jupiter immerses them in life on the sea. Children experience the daily lives of sailors through role playing and overcoming challenges.
LITTLE COUREURS DES BOIS
The children discover the story of a coureur des bois. They learn about fur trapping and trading with Aboriginal people through a tale about the mysteries of the forest. By handling furs and playing an association game, they also learn to recognize the most highly prized animal of the period – the beaver!

Children 9 to 12 years old

ISLAND EXPLORERS
Campers hold a rally and explore St. Helen’s Island through clues and solving riddles. They look for a treasure chest and discover the island’s heritage.

SOLDIERS FOR A DAY
“Recruited soldiers” dressed in costume are drilled in 18th-century military manoeuvres and exercises leading to a mock rank and file battle on St. Helen’s Island. Who will win?
